Location 

It was established by Cabinet  decree (1290/1982). It lies along Km 9-15 and 11.8 Km deep, right of Cairo - Belbais desert road, . It lies along Ismailia road, Km 26 .

2- General plan

The total area of the city  is 16 thousand acres which are an urban community   (Residential areas - services – industrial -   tourism and recreation ....) in addition to 16.4 thousand acres which are extension according to presidential decree (66/2009).   

3- Housing sector 

The total number of  housing units is  91806 of which 29923 implemented  by New Urban Communities Authority :

12553   youth and future  housing units

6590   low and economic  housing units

248       above medium housing units

579    free housing units 

689   developed economic   housing units

9264   national   housing units

1000 social  housing  units , 3120 national housing units and 2136 above medium housing units  are being implemented .

Population:

Current   :  550 thousand  inhabitants

Target     :  600 thousand  inhabitants

5- Utilities and infrastructure sector

Drinking water:

The city is fed with potable water through water purification plant (3 stages ) with total capacity of 660 thousand m 3 / day .

Length of finished networks: 1170  km.

Sanitation:

-Implementation of 4 pumping stations and disposal lines for the transfer of the wastewater to the city treatment plant, at Al Gabal Al Assfar wastewater .

-Length of finished networks: 815 km

Electricity:

- 4 electric stations with the capacity of 275  M. F. A   have been   finished.

-Length of finished networks: 4877 km.

Roads and communications:

-Length of finished road networks: 559 km.

-Length of finished communication networks: 1260 km.

Agriculture :

It includes cultivation of green areas and   forestation  ( 1.2 million m2 ) .

6- Industry sector

-There are 1119 producing factories   with 9784.6  million pounds as an investment capital, with an annual production of 5826.8 million pounds which  provided 73.362 thousand jobs paying 528.2 million pounds annually.

-There are 464 factories under construction  with an investment capital of 2562.57 million pounds and an annual production value  of 890.8 million pounds which will provide 13077 jobs paying 94.1544 million pounds annually.

6093 million pounds including:

- Housing sector         : 1313 million pounds

- Utilities sector           : 3571  million pounds

- Services  sector        : 1103 million pounds

- Agriculture sector      : 106 million pounds
